The Oklahoma Aquarium

A few weeks ago we headed to the Oklahoma Aquarium.

This was our second trip there. We went last summer also.

The younger kids had free tickets from the Tulsa Library's summer reading program.

The kids are letting shrimp walk on their hand. They look much better when they are battered and deep fried. (The shrimp, not the kids.)

Travis was being his usual grumpy self, but he did have a few moments when he liked looking at the fish.

The Aquarium has several shallow pools where you can touch various creatures like sea cucumbers and star fish.

and sharks!

and sting rays!

Virtual Brooke feeding the sharks.

You are now entering the shark tunnel.......

Shark Bait!

An unfortunate casualty.

So, imagine my surprise when a huge box was delivered to our door today. The kids were like, "Oh my goodness, Mom! What did you order?!?"

Well......I didn't order anything. I won a year supply of Pretzel Crisps from a contest I entered! (That I really don't remember entering, so it was an extra fun surprise when it showed up!)

The kids have decided that they don't really care for the Jalapeno Jack, but the Chipotle Cheddar and Buffalo Wing are mighty yummy!

Field Trip to the Tulsa Zoo

It was time to take a little field trip over to the zoo. The kids had free tickets from the library summer reading program and our internet company happened to send us two free admissions with our last bill so that = free trip to the zoo!

Now, we did love our dear Riverbanks Zoo back in Columbia. It really is one of the nicest zoos I've been to.

Tulsa Zoo has a lot more acreage than Riverbanks, but it really is more spead out, so there may even be fewer animal exhibits.

Tulsa Zoo has several buildings that are basically a living history type musuem with lots of hands on activites. Unfortunately, our two favorite buildings were closed for repairs.

At Riverbanks, you have to eat your lunch outside the gate, but at Tulsa Zoo you can bring your lunch inside and sit at one of the many picnic tables or the big playground in the center.

Neither zoo has a surviving polar bear.

Strike a pose.

So, I would say, we will give equal amount of fondness to both zoos.

Last Saturday evening we headed back to the zoo for a wedding. A wedding at the Zoo?? Yes, it actually was quite nice and we even got to ride the train 4 times.

We were the last ones to leave. The kids could've ridden the train til midnight, I'm sure.

Tulsa State Fair

Whew! We have been so busy with getting school started and going on field trips, going to weddings, couponing and everything else that I just haven't had time to blog. I've said many times in the past few weeks, "Maybe I'll get to it this evening."

So, finally "this evening" is here!

Last Friday we went to the Tulsa State Fair. We hadn't been to a fair in about ten years. I got student discount tickets so we all got in for $16. Hooray!

We decided not to ride any rides, but we did have a lot of fun!

We saw and petted LOTS of animals....

"Okay. Take a left at the funnel cakes and turn right at the ferris wheel...."

Learning how to saddle a horse. This may come in handy if we get land one day!

I just realized this is a very "Tristan-heavy" post.

He must be photogenic.

One of my friends says he looks like a Duggar.

We also had lots of yummy food. This is a fried Snickers bar. It went nicely with the funnel cake, corn dog, hamburger, deep-fried-loaded bacon dog, roasted corn, fresh squeezed lemonade, maple nut fudge and shave ice.

Tums, anyone?
